Avian Ecology undertook a suite of bat surveys at a disused mill in Greater Manchester. Surveys included an Extended Phase 1 habitat survey, preliminary bat roost inspection survey or as its now known a Preliminary Roost Assessment (PRA). These surveys highlighted the need for additional bat activity surveys including dusk emergence and dawn re-entry surveys and internal automatic monitoring inside the roof voids. These surveys aim to confirm roost presence or likely absence and adopt industry standard guidance for bat surveys: Bat Conservation Trust (Collins, 2016) which can be found here: http://www.bats.org.uk/pages/batsurveyguide.html
This large site required multiple teams of surveyors, lead by Avian Ecology’s licence bat ecologist Andrew Logan MCIEEM. Survey effort was appropriate and relevant to the project.
The project is ongoing so keep an eye out for updates!
