Project Description

Trunk Road improvement | mid-Wales

We designed and completed a number of bat surveys in the vicinity of a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) for bats on behalf of Gwynedd Council. SAC sites are designated under the EC Habitats Directive with the highest level of protection, so any proposed works in close proximity to them need to fully demonstrate that there will be no effects on the SAC qualifying bat species. We prepared a bespoke survey plan which was agreed with Natural Resources Wales (NRW), including walked and driven transect surveys, deployment of automated bat detectors and targeted building surveys for possible bat roosts. Our specialist team completed a series of monthly surveys and provided the Council with detailed data and mapping to help them plan future work on trunk roads in the area.
